Does Sitting Makes Piles Worse?

Piles affect millions of people every year. In some cases, piles go away on their own, while in some cases, treatment is needed by consulting the doctor. For those, especially those who are overweight, pregnant, or have digestive disorders, the problem can be really frustrating and annoying to deal with. Taking a holistic approach to care with the aim of reducing the immediate pain and inflammation, while gently easing the bowel movements to prevent the straining and recurrence can go a long way in helping you to cope up with the condition of piles.

Does sitting make piles worse?

Yes, sitting on a hard surface can cause the area around the piles to stretch, forcing the swollen veins to be further passed out. Another habit that can aggravate hemorrhoids is sitting for a long time on the toilet because it causes blood to pool around the area, further enlarging the blood vessels. How you sit has a big effect on how well you recover from the condition. Consider for a moment when you hit the hard surface. The pressure exerted on the gluteal muscles of the buttocks can cause them to spread out and stretch. This, in turn, stretches the tissues of the anal and rectal (anorectal) areas, causing already swollen veins to bulge even further. If you are prone to hemorrhoids, sitting in a hard chair for long periods of time can even trigger the condition. All you need to do is just get yourself a soft pillow or inflatable donut cushion to sit on and make sure that you don’t give pressure to the area where the piles are present.

Two of the most helpful things that you can do to help your body to recover from piles are making the stools easier to pass and keeping the affected area clean.

Lubricate your stools

It is very important to lubricate your stools because if the stools are east to pass, then you will actually get a bit of relief from the suffering. A high-fiber diet is a great long-term solution for constipation.1 But for more immediate relief, you can help lubricate your stools by mixing a tablespoon or two of mineral oil with a four- to an eight-ounce glass of prune juice. Even if you are heavily constipated, avoid taking more than one dose per day, as this can cause watery stools. Try to avoid caffeinated drinks, coffee and alcohol as much as possible, which can dry out the stool and can cause excessive urination.

Get things moving

By gently filling the rectum with warm water, you can ease out even hard, pebbly stools. Be careful not to overfill the rectum, as this can stretch already-inflamed tissues. If you have internal hemorrhoid, you need to take extra care and use a water-based lubricant to ease the nozzle into the rectum. (Never use a moisturizing cream or lotion, which can sting and cause irritation. Always be sure to thoroughly wash an enema bag or douche ball, inside and out, between uses (or dispose of them as directed).

Practice good anal hygiene

This is one of the most important factors that need to be taken care of, even when you are not suffering from piles. It is essential to keep your rectal area clean, particularly after a bowel movement. If you have multiple or severely inflamed hemorrhoids, you can buy a perianal irrigation bottle from the drugstore for around $10 or use any clean, squeezable bottle you have on hand (such as a sports water bottle).

Squirting warm water on the affected area not only helps clean the skin but has a comforting, therapeutic effect. You can then follow up by dabbing the anus with a moist towelette or flushable baby wipe until thoroughly clean. When bathing or showering, avoid deodorant soaps or harsh cleansers, which can irritate and dry the skin. If anything, just wash the anal area gently with plain water either by splashing or using a shower hose attachment. Afterward, dab the skin dry and apply some aloe vera gel directly onto hemorrhoid with a cotton ball. Pure vitamin E oil or coconut oil can also be helpful, moisturizing and alleviating inflammation all at the same time. Avoid cream or lotions containing these oils as they can be irritating.

Making changes to your daily routine and incorporating new practices can also help reduce the discomfort and the pain, both in the bathroom and out.

Use an Ice Pack

In the same way that an ice pack can reduce inflammation caused by a sports injury, an ice pack placed on hemorrhoid can reduce the acute swelling of hemorrhoidal veins.

The trick with ice packs is to never place them directly on bare skin or leave them in one place for too long. Doing so can cause frostbite and may damage underlying skin tissue.

Change Position on the Toilet

When you are on the toilet, consider raising your feet with a step stool. By elevating your knees above your hips, you alter the angle of your rectum and provide stools a more direct route out of the body. Also, avoid sitting on the toilet for a long time if you have constipation. The wide opening of the seat promotes anorectal stress and can make your hemorrhoids far worse. Instead, get up and move around to help stimulate the bowels, or, better yet, take a long walk around the block.

Take a Sitz Bath

A sitz bath is a practical solution that can help ease hemorrhoidal pain, itchiness, and inflammation. The bath itself is a plastic tub you can purchase at the drugstore for around $10. It fits over the toilet bowl and can be filled with warm water and other ingredients such as Epsom salt, witch hazel, or baking soda. The mere act of sitting in warm water help tempers the body’s inflammatory response and reduce the localized swelling and pain.

Always clean the sitz bath, ideally with a solution of two tablespoons of bleach to a half-gallon of water, and rinse it well before use. Fill the sitz bathtub with warm, not hot, water and soak for 15 to 20 minutes only, to prevent oversaturation of the skin. A sitz bath can also be performed in the bathtub. When finished, gently dab the anal area with a soft cloth until dry.

Homeopathy for Piles treatment

Homeopathy for piles treatment is considered to be one of the safest and effective treatments. Any homeopathic clinic would be able to help you with a proper treatment that is designed for treating the piles. Homeopathy treatment does not only provide long-term relief but also has long-lasting results. Homeopathy doctor prescribes the homeopathic treatment plan after observing the patient so that the piles treatment plan suits the patient in an effective manner.

Homeopathy has been used in the treatment of piles for over 150 years and is still in use today.

Most piles sufferers are unaware that homeopathic medicines can offer them a safe, reliable, effective and long-term solution to piles. A recent study found that more than 90% of patients experienced improvement within 6 months by taking homeopathic medicines.

The following points explain how homeopathy treats piles:

1) Homeopathy works on the principle that “like cures like” – as with conventional medicine (allopathic), but unlike conventional, where toxic drugs or surgery may be prescribed which can have nasty side effects, homeopathy simply uses incredibly mild medicines based on plants and minerals to stimulate the body’s own defense mechanisms to restore health at the deepest level.

2) The medicines are so gentle, they do not cause side effects or interact with other allopathic medications – which means that piles can be treated without further discomfort and piles sufferers can continue their piles treatment alongside conventional piles treatments such as surgery or piles cushions/pads.

3) Each homeopathic medicine is made up of a dilute solution of the substance that causes symptoms that produce a similar effect to those it is designed for. For example, suppositories containing small doses of belladonna may be used to help piles while an ointment containing small amounts of capsicum is beneficial in cases where piles are caused by inflammation in the rectum.

4) Homeopathy works from the inside out i.e. the medicines used are taken orally or applied locally (by rubbing onto piles) and these gently stimulate the body’s natural healing mechanisms to eliminate piles and prevent their re-occurrence.

5) While conventional treatments such as piles cushions and piles surgery can only treat symptoms, homeopathy treats the cause of piles – which means that it is a permanent solution to piles; once underway, there will be no need for further treatment for piles.

6) Like conventional medicine, homeopathic medicines work well on their own but even better alongside alternative piles treatments such as piles surgery although none of these methods should replace lifestyle changes e.g., avoiding constipation by eating a high fiber diet and taking regular exercise.

Homeopathy for piles treatment means that anyone with piles, no matter how severe their case or how much discomfort they are in should try it as soon as possible before opting for conventional treatments such as piles surgery.
