How To Diagnose Piles?

Piles or hemorrhoids refer to swollen, dilated, engorged veins in and around the anus. Piles affect the majority of the population. Piles can affect both women and men. Symptoms often improve with at-home treatments, but on occasion, people need medical attention because if the symptoms are severe, a doctor needs to be consulted. Anyone is susceptible to piles, but before that, one should be aware of the symptoms of piles so that they can go for the piles treatment at the right time.

Symptoms of piles

The symptoms of hemorrhoids include:

  • Extreme itching around the anus
  • Irritation and pain around the anus
  • An itchy or painful lump or swelling near your anus
  • Fecal leakage
  • A painful bowel movement
  • Blood on your tissue after having a bowel movement

These are some of the common symptoms of piles. If you notice any one of them that is causing you discomfort or pain, you need to consult the doctor on an immediate basis so that they can start the piles treatment.

The increased pressure causes piles in the lower rectum. The blood vessels around the anus and the rectum will stretch under pressure and may bulge or swell, forming piles. This may be due to –

  • Pregnancy
  • Chronic constipation
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Straining when passing a tool
  • Lifting heavyweights
  • Sitting on the toilet for a long time
  • Family history of hemorrhoids
  • Weak rectal veins and walls
  • Obesity
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Chronic cough
  • Pregnancy
  • Overuse of laxatives or enemas

The tendency to develop piles may also be inherited and increases with age. Piles can go away with time, but if it does not, one needs to show the doctor to get the piles treatment on time.

How to diagnose piles?

A doctor can usually diagnose piles after carrying out a physical examination. They will examine the anus of the person with suspected piles.

The doctor may ask the following questions:

  • Do any close relatives have piles?
  • Has there been any blood or mucus in the stools?
  • Has there been any recent weight loss?
  • Have bowel movements changed recently?
  • What color are the stools?

Before going for the piles treatment plan, your doctor will diagnose the problem and then give you the solutions accordingly. Your doctor can often diagnose piles based on your medical history and a physical exam. He or she can diagnose external hemorrhoids by checking the area around your anus. To diagnose internal hemorrhoids, your doctor will perform a digital rectal exam and perform procedures to look inside your anus and rectum.

Medical history

Your doctor will ask you to provide your medical history and describe the symptoms you have. He or she will ask you about your eating habits, toilet habits, enema and laxative use, and current medical conditions.

Physical exam

Your doctor will check the area around your anus for

  • lumps or swelling
  • internal hemorrhoids that have fallen through your anal opening called prolapse
  • external hemorrhoids with a blood clot in a vein
  • leakage of stool or mucus
  • skin irritation
  • skin tags––extra skin that is left behind when a blood clot in external hemorrhoid dissolve
  • anal fissures—a small tear in the anus that may cause itching, pain, or bleeding

Your doctor will perform a digital rectal exam to

  • check the tone of the muscles in your anus
  • check for tenderness, blood, internal hemorrhoids, and lumps or masses

Procedures

Your doctor diagnoses the piles based on the symptoms and a physical exam. You might have:

  • Digital rectal exam: Your provider inserts a gloved, lubricated finger into the rectum to feel for swollen veins.
  • Anoscopy: Your provider uses an anoscope (lighted tube) to view the lining of the anus and rectum.
  • Sigmoidoscopy: Your provider uses a sigmoidoscope (lighted tube with a camera) to view inside the lower (sigmoid) part of the colon and rectum. Procedure types include flexible sigmoidoscopy and rigid sigmoidoscopy (proctoscopy).
  • The doctor may perform a digital rectal examination (DRE) or use a proctoscope for internal piles. A proctoscope is a hollow tube fitted with a light. It allows the doctor to see the anal canal up close. They can take a small tissue sample from inside the rectum. This can then be sent to the lab for analysis.

These tests may be uncomfortable, but they aren’t painful. They typically take place in the doctor’s office or outpatient Centre without anesthesia, and you can go home the same day. Your doctor may also perform a colonoscopy to confirm the findings from other tests or to check for colon cancer signs. This procedure would certainly require anesthesia. But if it is just about the piles, then you don’t need to worry much. The procedure might make you uncomfortable, but then the diagnoses have to be done to know the severity of the piles and then only the doctor can give you the piles treatment accordingly.

Why Homeopathy?

Piles often go away on their own in most cases, but if the symptoms like pain and bleeding take one last week or more, then going for the homeopathy treatment for piles would be the safest and the best option. You need to select the best homeopathic clinic to go around for the piles treatment that would not only guide you but provide you with the homeopathic medicine that suits you and reduces the issue. Other piles treatments offer temporary relief from the symptoms, but that is not in homeopathy, and therefore, homeopathy treatment is preferred by most people. There are some significant benefits of homeopathy in piles treatment, and those include:

  • A holistic approach to treat piles

Homeopathy aims to treat the problem internally by understanding the cause of different symptoms instead of suppressing them. OTC drugs, ointments, and other symptom-relieving options only provide temporary relief. Out of ten people, at least one person is recommended for a piles-related surgery. This invasive treatment has a host of complications, like difficulty passing stools and urinary tract infections post-surgery. Surgeries like hemorrhoid stapling may cause rectal prolapse (part of the rectum pushes out of the anus) and hemorrhoid recurrence.

  • No side effects

Homeopathy for piles treatment does not have any side effects, which is an added advantage as homeopathic medicine comprises highly diluted natural substances. Over-the-counter remedies for piles only help relieve the symptoms, and certain side effects come with their usage. For example, creams containing corticosteroids are recommended for reducing pain and inflammation for piles, but prolonged use of these causes skin reactions, increased sweating and growth of body hair, inflammation of hair follicles, and increased vulnerability to infections.

  • Natural Remedies to treat piles

Piles treatment in homeopathy helps to restore the natural healing processes of the body. Homeopathy treatment for piles involves a comprehensive treatment plan that works in harmony with the system. In conventional medicine, the use of stimulant laxatives to relieve constipation due to piles may cause side effects like abdominal cramps, bloating, rectal irritation, weakness, and pain.

  • Individualized treatment

Homeopathy works by analyzing the individual symptoms of the disease that is present in a person. The homeopathy doctor does not directly give the medicine, but first, he or she considers the medical history and the current condition of the patient. They also ask the patient about the symptoms and then give them the personalized piles treatment plan.

  • Safe treatment

Medicines for piles treat the problem by reducing the engorgement of blood in the rectal veins and improving blood circulation. Homeopathic piles treatment helps enhance the efficacy of the natural substances in the medicines, which, in turn, reduces the severity of the symptoms and treats the problem on a long-term basis.

  • Effective treatment

A single dose of the correct medicine can help relieve the symptoms and treat piles to a large degree. By restoring the internal processes of the body, these medications help address the condition naturally and effectively. With homeopathic piles treatment, you can hold off invasive procedures like surgery.

While you are under the treatment of any other system of medicine, you run the risk of getting one or the different side effects, while homeopathic treatment for piles is safe. These are some of the homeopathic remedies for piles treatment that the doctor recommends in a homeopathy clinic. Apart from that, your doctor might also suggest some steps to prevent the piles by making dietary and lifestyle changes and medicines. Some of the steps are:

  • Eat more high-fiber foods (fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains) or take supplements. Generally, women should aim for 25 grams per day, while men should get 35 grams of fiber.
  • Stay physically active. Being on the move keeps bowels moving.
  • Don’t sit too long or push too hard on the toilet.
  • Go to the toilet when the urge hits — don’t delay bowel movements.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Take laxatives or use enemas only as recommended by your healthcare provider. Too many laxatives or enemas can make it hard for your body to regulate how you poop.
  • Avoid too much alcohol and also quit smoking.
  • Sit in a warm water tub for a minimum of 10 minutes.
